3 THINGS I DID WHEN I STARTED MY WEIGHT-LOSS JOURNEY

Updated: Oct 22, 2018

But like, where the hell do I start? Like, where in the actual hell do I start? Well, I can't tell you what to do but I can sure tell you the first 3 things I did to kickstart my weight-loss journey!

This did NOT take a month, or 6. This type of PROGRESS took me over a year and a half. Slow and steady wins the race, right? Slow and steady also teaches you to stop rewarding yourself with food. You aren't a dog.

HOW DID I GET MYSELF IN THIS MESS?

My story is one I think many of you can relate to and I did not realize that until I actually started to TELL my story. I want to say you're not alone. Now, how my brain works is in "tabs" or bullet points. Here is what I struggled with and how I got in the position I was in:

  • I did not pay attention to myself.

  • I focused 100% of my energy on business.

  • I did not eat util sometimes 3 or 4 PM which ruined my metabolism.

  • Made "healthy" choices which were actually worse than having a Snickers bar when it came down to nutrition labels.

  • I was socially influenced by food. Where I went was decided by what food was going to be there.

  • I was not active. I sat in my desk chair for hours and hours a day.

  • I made excuses as to why I did not have the time to do anything for myself because I was not educated enough on personal time management.

  • I was addicted to sugar drinks. I hated water.

  • My favorite thing to do was eat.

I made the choice to shift my entire life. This took, and is taking, over a year. I first started with those pesky sugar drinks! Gosh I HATE them now. Those ruined me and my skin. They're empty calories! Have you ever noticed how many carbs and sugar are in ONE can of soda? You can literally have a large french fry from McDonalds for that amount of carbohydrates. That is INSANE. Once I learned to love drinking water the journey began to get easier on my brain. I had to break a BAD habit and the NEED for soda or juice was gone. After I kicked that in the butt, I began to see changes in my body. I dropped almost 10 lbs in 2 months simply with this change.

The second thing I did was I cut out dairy! Gosh, dairy sucks too if you have ANY sort of health goal. Think of it this way...calves drink milk to get to be the size of full grown cows. I don't want to be that way. Dairy is also TERRIBLE for acne. If you have troubled skin the dairy increases inflammation in your body which essentially inflames your breakouts. My skin was a huge insecurity. I wanted to change this. Dairy also made me feel bloated and terrible. I had a hard time breathing! That is NO fun. I dropped nearly another 10 lbs in 2 months with this change and I started to feel better!

The third thing I did on my own before I hit a HUGE plateau and became discouraged was I got rid of processed food!! You know...the "fun" things. Wait, they're not fun! Food is not FUN! Food is FUEL! Why on earth do we associate fun with food? This is such a shame. Fun is hanging out with your friends, not being insecure, going to concerts, riding horses, not being out of breath, wearing cute outfits...that is FUN! Change the way you think of fun and you will change our life. I dropped about 5 lbs in 2 months with this change. Not to mention the bloating in my body vanished, my headaches subsided, and I just had A LOT more energy throughout my day! The rule of thumb is if it can sit in your pantry and you can eat it immediately without it needing to be prepared or thrown away from going bad, don't eat it. That simple!
